The Primary Rule of Ships and Castles:

Never piss off the Cook.

 ”I’ve half a mind, you know, to dismiss that Castellan of yours. Replace him. Damn bold, he is.” He said this late one night, leaning against the big head table.


The Lady considered a moment.  “No.”


“No, Lady?”


“No, I should think you shan’t.”  A pause, and she explains: “Cook likes him.”


“What difference should that make?”

She stares at him for a long beat.  “…you really don’t know anything, do you?” So saying she leaves the room, humming.
